Free Admission to the MN Children’s Museum!

Children's Museum

If you’re looking for more kid-friendly ideas, Target sponsors a FREE day at the Minnesota Children’s Museum the 3rd Sunday of every month.  My kids had a great time there and were occupied for hours!  These events are great to take advantage of while they last.  Getting the family out for a day of fun and learning activities, not to mention absolutely free, sounds great to me!

They also sponsor free days at museums and art institutes in many other major cities across the U.S.  Click here to find what is offered near you.

Kid Quote of the Day

“There’s the licorice store that we bought the beard for Grandpa!” – My 3-year-old pointing to the liquor store where we bought some beer for my dad once.

Free Movie for the Family at MOA

Rio Movie

If you’re looking for a way to entertain the kids, this week’s free movie at the Mall of America is “Rio”. Saturday morning at 10:00 am!

FYI, the Mall of America movie theater shows a Free Family Flick each Saturday during the summer, first come first served.  We’ve gone to a few of these and it’s always been a nice, cheap experience.  They play slightly older movies of course, but have shown things like “Shrek Forever After”, “The Muppet Movie” and even “Goonies”. (I love that movie!)

Free MN Zoo Passes Through Labor Day

Museum Adventure Pass
Residents of Minnesota, you can still get free passes for the Minnesota Zoo and various other museums through Labor Day by visiting your local library and checking out a Museum Adventure Pass.  In case you didn’t know, the library offers free passes (2 per person per check out slip) to select locations, like the Minnesota Zoo.  There are a limited number of passes at each library so it’s best to get there when the library opens to find the location you’d like to visit.  Check out a pass and it’s good for 2 admissions to the location of your choice.  Pretty sweet!

This is the 6th year that it has been going on and sadly also the final year that these passes will be given away.

You can check out this link for more information about this program.  Then get to the library!

Ignore SaveMore

I was thinking about the daily deals lately.  We’ve all seen them, a Groupon or LivingSocial deal that gives you an amount to spend at an establishment for half the price or a discounted vacation, etc.  Definitely something I have bought in the past and enjoyed being able to take advantage of.

However, I wanted to warn you if you hadn’t heard of SaveMore.com yet.  SaveMore is another website offering great deals for half price, but they don’t follow through on sending their products that you paid for.  A BIG problem in my mind!  I am aware of many people that had the same thing happen to them from this specific website.  After numerous phone calls that I made to the company and several attempts at emailing to come to some sort of resolution, only to hear nothing back, I ended up having to file with my credit card company.

So if you’ve ever considered the daily deals that are out there, there are definitely some good, legit websites.  But beware, in my experience and from what I’ve heard from many others, stay far away from SaveMore.com!

Brave Video Game for 50% off!

Today only, Amazon is offering up the Brave video game for half price. The Wii, PlayStation 3, and Xbox formats are all $25.00, (regularly $49.99!) while the Nintendo DS version is $15. If you have a Prime membership, shipping is free.

Just go here to make your purchase. If you’ve been looking for a good deal on this new Disney game or early Christmas gifts to check off your list, you might want to check it out!

Target Gift Cards for 10% Off!

Target.com is offering up a daily deal, today only, when you spend $100 on select items, you get $10 off automatically at checkout.  To make this deal even better, Target gift cards are included.  So for $90 out of pocket, you get $100 to spend at Target.  Shipping is $1.95 if you don’t have a Target Red Card, or free if you do and use your Red Card for the purchase.

As a side note, the 5% Target discount that automatically comes off purchases with your Target red card does NOT apply on the purchase of Target gift cards, BUT if you want to purchase other restaurant/iTunes gift cards on Target.com, you will get 5% off.  So think about purchasing a few $25 Chipotle or iTunes gift cards for an even better deal.

Buy (4) $25 Chipotle gift cards = $100
– $10 automatically at checkout = $90
– $4.50 for 5% discount with Red Card

= $85.50 for $100 in gift cards shipped to your home!

Welcome to Spend Less Moola!

Welcome!

My name is Nikki and I started this blog because I have a passion for saving money and I wanted to help others do the same.  Being a stay-at-home Mom taking care of two young, amazing kids can be very challenging at times, (especially my high-energy kids!)  I try to help support our family by spending less each month on items we’d need to buy anyway. The truth is, I love finding deals and know I can help you find them too!

It is my goal to show you how you can spend less of your “moola” to buy the things you really want.  So spend less, get more for your money and enjoy some of my ramblings, parenting tips and ideas, and random thoughts along the way!

I hope you enjoy my blog, and if you do, don’t be shy to tell your friends about it! 🙂
